Here's what I'm scatting about this week :
English title
Hey Reader,
Iâm not sure if the Entertainment gods have something against me personally, but things keep happening to me before my shows. Well I told you about the shoe mishap last week but this one is much worse.
On Friday May 1st, which is a holiday, I flew from Bordeaux to Paris, Paris to Frankfurt am Main, Germany and then took the train to Cologne. My checked bag, with all of my clothes, shoes, toiletries and makeup only made it to Paris. I thought no biggie, Iâll just wash my socks and undies and wear the same clothes for a few hours until my bag comes. I figured it would come the next day. On Saturday I received an email that my bag would arrive at Frankfurt at 12:50 that day and would be expedited to my hotel in Cologne. Great news!!! Around 5 pm, I get a phone call saying my bag would arrive by Wednesday. đ«UH OH, big problem, my show was on Sunday at the Cologne Philharmonic and I was to go home on Monday. The personnel said they would have it expedited to Cologne and I thought Iâd get it just in time for my show. Mind you I needed to wash and style my afro hair for which I have special products.
What does any of this have to do with singing ? Well, it was my attitude throughout the whole ordeal. I stayed calm and did what had to be done. I washed my undies and socks every day. I showed up for rehearsal with a smile and played my part. No one was the wiser except for the fact that I had the exact same clothes on from Friday through Monday. (I now hate that outfit!!!)
I could have gotten upset because what was in that bag was more than just clothes. In that bag contains the items that help me to show up in the world looking the way I want to look and feeling the way I want to feel. Nothing is worse than having to wash your delicate skin with hotel soap and then using hotel hand lotion on your face and body when you have dry and sensitive skin.
I also had no dress or shoes for the show and no makeup. I was rehearsing on Saturday and Sunday, most things were closed.
With a whole lot of patience, luck and tenacity, I found a dress. I sang barefoot and one of the other singers loaned me some makeup. I simply kept my focus on what was important. I was hired to perform a role in a blues opera called âLonging to Tellâ. I didnât need to be pretty and I didnât need shoes. We all sang barefoot! I just needed to do my best and the show was a success.
I saved the show and remained professional and drama-free throughout the whole thing. Iâm proud of this fact because a younger me would have been a ball of nerves and probably would have made everyone uncomfortable, which would have been unprofessional.
I share this with you so that hopefully you can remember to at least try to deal with this sort of situation with calm and grace. These things happen ALL OF THE TIME! The production manager, Martina, who helped me find the dress had other things to deal with than just me and my bags. Even though the project is finished for now, Iâm sure in the future she will not hesitate to hire me or to recommend me to others because of how I show up to work, no matter what happens. All is well that ends well!
Oh but youâre probably wondering what happened to my luggage! Well I have AirTags and I found out that my bag (appropriately named American Tourister), was sightseeing in Munich before quickly making its way back home to the airport in Bordeaux. It was proudly waiting for me when I arrived on Monday. Sneaky little thing!đ„ž

Voici le scat du jour :
Titre en Français
Salut Reader,
